The Great Depression profoundly affected the psyche of the American people, just as today's Great Recession spawns untold emotional harm that will last for generations. Like a toxic seed, the Depression planted itself deeply into the emotional minds of those who lived through it, only to be transmitted from generation to generation, as parents told their children of hardships endured and shame swallowed. I know that it affected me long after my mother shuffled off her mortal coil. As a child, I listened intently to one of her remembrances -- the humiliation she felt in receiving free shoes as a...

A Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General report has been released which paints a very troubling picture of the 287(g) program which allows local and state law enforcement agencies to enforce immigration laws. The report doesn't mince words:We observed instances in which Immigration and Customs Enforcement and participating law enforcement agencies were not operating in compliance with the terms of the agreements. We also noted several areas in which Immigration and Customs Enforcement had not instituted controls to promote effective program operations and address related risks. Immigration and Customs Enforcement needs to (1) establish appropriate performance measures and...

Dear All,
I am sorry for posting this message on the Immigration group because it doesnt really relate to the immigration issues. I have been a part of this group for a long time, and hence I thought of sharing this with you all. Although we all are here in the US, we all have our families and friends back home in India. This petition (forwarded to me by my friend) is a petition for safety of our people in India. Please do not consider it as a junk post.
----------
Please sign this petition. This is the least we can do as citizens of India to express ourselves against the 7/11 Mumbai train blasts.
Please also forward it to all your friends, relatives, office collegues, all your address-book contacts, egroups, alumni groups etc.

yes. Select it, then check out the left hand panel. I believe that "layout" will have a check box which says, "show object" or something similar. This is what you use to make an object transparent.
This will only work on peices of a grouped object... not the whole group.. keep this in mind.

Will it be ok to change employers multiple times on EAD with in shrt span of time difference?
yes, after being a 'chicken' for so long, I changed job on AC21 six months back. And since then changed twice after that. (once forced due to economy, second time moved to a better position) in fact now I am loving the freedom that comes with EAD. Only make sure you stick to same profession (programming) other things like salary or job title etc doesn't matter. Good Luck!

I am a July' 07 I-485 filer and have received my EAD and AP.
I am currently on H1 and not using my EAD yet.
In my situation can I accept any contract work on 1099? This will be beside my full time work.
Do I have to switch to EAD from H1 to accept 1099 for contract work?
Thanks in advance.
I believe you have to switch to an EAD if you want to engage in some work on the side.

Hi, Last year, I heard about a new rule that says that H4 time will not be counted against H1 time so basically, if someone is transferring from H4 to H1, the time spent in H4 will be excluded while deciding the duration of H1.
Is this rule true ? I mean, has it become a law now ? Did somebody use this rule to grab the time spent in H4.
Please let me know.

There is no doubt that the H-1B program has been the subject of intense scrutiny and contentious debate over the last several years. Indeed, there have been many recent (both successful and unsuccessful) attempts to restrict the use of H1-B visas through legislation. Despite the prevalent backlash, the largest users of H-1B workers continue to defend their H-1B policies, with a call for the elimination of a yearly quota or cap. Under current law, USCIS can approve up to 85,000 new H-1B petitions, with 20,000 set aside for advanced degree graduates of universities in the United States. This year, for...

When you travel on AP carry both the copies. On the PoE the IO will keep one and give the second to you after it is stamped. You use the returned/stamped Copy for your future travel
When one applies for AP in Multiple entry category they will be given 2 AP dox. lets say if one has used both on travelling like both has stamp of POE can they reuse the same for future travel with in the one year period of validity ?

This is not really a surprise and it's not because American doctors are in any way inadequate. However, while virtually all US medical school graduates will eventually go on to practice medicine, residency and fellowship slots that go to J-1 and H-1B doctors are filled by doctors who generally finish near the top of their medical school classes. Americans who worry that they are getting inferior medical care going to a internationally-educated doctor should feel more at ease after seeing this data. One group that didn't do well - American-born doctors who go to medical school overseas.
